AI Background Remover

Automatically isolate subjects and remove backgrounds with an offline AI model that runs entirely in your browser. No upload, no signup, no daily limit.

How to remove an image background

Three clicks from a busy background to a clean transparent cutout.

  1. 1

    Drop your image

Drag and drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP into the dropzone. People, products, animals, plants, and most well-lit subjects work out of the box.

  2. 2

Wait for the AI to load

On the first run, a ~40 MB AI model downloads to your browser cache (one-time). Subsequent runs are instant — the model is reused.

  3. 3

    Download the cutout

Background removal runs locally on your device. Download the result as a transparent PNG. Repeat with new images at full speed.

Frequently asked questions

Everything worth knowing before you cut out your first image.

How does the AI background remover work?

It runs a lightweight neural network directly inside your browser via WebAssembly. The model classifies each pixel as foreground or background and produces a transparent PNG. There is no server step — your image and the model both stay on your device.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Both the AI model and your image are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored remotely. Safe for unreleased product shots, personal photos, ID images, and confidential designs.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time you use the tool, a ~40 MB AI model downloads from a CDN and is cached in your browser. After that, subsequent runs are instant because the model is already local. Clearing your browser cache will trigger a fresh download.

Does this work as well as remove.bg or Photoshop?

For typical subjects (people, products, animals), the quality is comparable to commercial tools. Hair edges, fine fur, and translucent objects (glass, smoke, mesh) are the hardest cases — for those, a paid remove.bg subscription or manual Photoshop masking still has the edge.

What image formats are supported?

Input: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF. Output: transparent PNG. Convert the result to WebP afterward (with the Convert tool) for a much smaller file at the same visual quality.

Can I batch-remove backgrounds from many images?

Drop multiple files in. Each is processed sequentially through the model. Because everything runs locally, throughput depends on your CPU/GPU — typical desktops handle ~5–10 photos per minute.

Why is part of my subject missing from the cutout?

The model can mistake similarly colored regions (e.g., a blonde person against a beige wall) for background. Try a higher-contrast source image, or use the AI as a first pass and clean up edges in a desktop editor.

Does it work on phones / tablets?

Yes — the model runs on any modern mobile browser. Performance scales with device power, so a recent iPhone or Pixel will be much faster than a budget Android. The 40 MB model download is the same on all devices.

Will the cutout have a transparent background?

Yes — output is a PNG with a real alpha channel. You can drop it on any background color, layer it over another photo, or use it directly in design tools like Figma, Canva, or Photoshop.
