Frequently asked questions

Everything worth knowing before you sign your first PDF.

How do I sign a PDF without printing it?

Take a photo of your signature on white paper (or use a scanner / iPad). Save it as a transparent PNG (use the Background Remover tool). Drop the PDF into Editryk, drag the signature into place on the right page, and save. Done in under a minute.

Is the signature legally binding?

An image-stamped signature is recognized as an electronic signature in most jurisdictions for routine documents (contracts, agreements, NDAs) under laws like the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation. For high-value or regulated documents, a cryptographic digital signature (which Editryk does not provide) may be required — consult a legal professional.

Are my signature and PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Both stay entirely in your browser. Editryk renders the signature into the PDF locally. Your signature image and the document never leave your device.

Can I add multiple signatures to one PDF?

Yes. Add a co-signer's signature on a different page, or stamp your signature plus initials on multiple pages of the same document. Each signature is positioned independently.

Will the signature be removable from the PDF?

The signature is rendered as part of the page's content stream — there's no separate removable layer. It can theoretically be edited out in Acrobat Pro with significant effort, similar to a watermark.

Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

Unlock it first using the Unlock PDF tool (you must know the password), sign the unlocked copy, and re-protect it with the Protect PDF tool if needed.

What format should my signature image be?

Transparent PNG is best — the signature blends naturally with the underlying form lines. Black-on-white JPG works too but shows a visible white box around the signature.

How do I get a transparent signature image?

Take a photo of your handwritten signature on white paper, drop it into Editryk's Background Remover, and download the transparent PNG. The whole process takes 30 seconds.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed cap. PDFs of any reasonable size sign successfully. The practical ceiling is your browser's RAM.
